You can see in attach a solution one DAE (Simple Pendulum Motion) problem.
Without units - OK
With units - not OK
What is the problem?
I would like to know if it is possible to select the variable instead of typing it every time.
For example, If a variable is defined in the bigening of the sheet and has to be used later in different equations. At the moment user have to type in the variable every time and it is possible to make a typing mistake, which would make the equation incorrect.
In visual studio, once you start typing it will show all the matching previously defined variables, is there a functionality like that?
Thanks
Manish
Any help appreciated. I sure this has been asked ad infinitum but I can't find the answer.
I want to use Mathcad to assit my child in algebra. At times, I just want to use it instead of pen and paper, for example.
My child may have to solve this simple problem by isolating "x"
5x-7=9
I just want to write this in mathcad and work through the equality. But of course two(2) problems:
1) x appears outline in red as undefined. I've tried preceding it with x:=x and other ideas but nothing works. In fact, in x:=x, the second x has same problem with red outline and undefined error.
2) the "=" causes the problem to solve (if x is defined i.e. x:=2). The solution 3 would appear on the right side of the "=" and I can't type the nine(9).
Well, I'm sure many have seen this before.
Please help as it would be great to do algebra (solving equations manually) using mathcad using the computer where our work can be saved (and double checked by math cad).
Thank you,
DJ
Hello Mathcad Community,
I am currently trying to automate a Mathcad script using its Automation API. I am able to write values from Matlab/Excel to Mathcad and retrieve calculated values by return. What I would like to do is set the value of variable definitions and save a version of the Mathcad sheet with each iteration thereby generating a Mathcad sheet per iteration. Can you help?
The key is to take a set of data, pass it to Mathcad case at a time to a template sheet, save each case run as a seperate sheet automatically and then move on to the next case. To give context, I may have fifty sets of data and need to show the woking for each of the cases and not just in a table. Currently this would have to be done manually 1 at at time, which does lead a little bit of time consumption.
As templates are not available in Mathcad Prime am looking at using Mathcad 15 unless there is a solution to accomodate this in Mathcad Prime.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Am converting some existing Mathcad 15 files to Mathcad Prime 2.0 but have come across an issue where by the "break" programming syntax does not work in the same way and I can not figure out a way to replicate the level of functionality required.
Any ideas from the community? Image and example file attached.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I have been given the polynominal regression coefficients for the torque, thrust, and efficiency curves - corresponding to different propeller pitch to diameter ratios. When I graph these curves - they come out fine - apart from the fact - that because they are polynomials - they "re-appear" - outwith the range of that particular curve.
So my question is - how can the "rubbish" be filtered out of these regression curves? If you look at the attached spreadsheet - you will see the efficiency curves - have a lot of rubbish - beyond the "curve".
So in essence - I would like to "stop" - the graph - once the "curve" has been displayed. I suspect - I need a program to do this - but I am unsure how to do this.
Look forward to your ideas.
Gordon.
Hello,
I'm trying to command a Mathcad worksheet from Excel, using the Mathcad API interface.
I would have to access to some variables that use greek letters, but I'm having some problems. Following the help, I'm using the MC.GetValue() function to retrieve the variables from the mathcad worksheet (the MC is the object associated to the mathcad worksheet).
From the help: when variable has greek letters, they should be mapped using the backslash (in Visual Basic), so α is retrived with MC.GetValue("\a"). Whit this form, I can't get any value and I have an error message. The error message is:
Run-time error '-2147218257 (80040caf)
Impossible to find the required value in the worksheet
If the variable hasn't any greek letter, the method MC.GetValue() works perfectly, giving the corresponding values.
I'm using Mathcad 14.0 M020 (14.0.2.5).
Has someone encountered a similar problem? There are some hints to try to solve this problem?
I thank in advance for any help.
Hi everybody,
I do not understand the following: I have a signal, an acceleration: the units are of course [m/sec2].
Now the Fourier Transform of a function should have the dimensions of [function]*time.
So the FFT of my signal should have the dimensions of [m/sec]
What I get (I am actually using cfft, but that should not do any difference)
cfft(acceleration) --> units [m/sec2]
why does this happen? it should be [m/s]
I discovered the problem while trying to compute the Power Spectral Density of the acceleration signal (that is what I actually want). It comes out with the wrong units. I also tried to use pspectrum (from Signal Processing), but I also get wrong units.
Attached a small example where I show my problem using a sample sinusoidal signal + noise
Thanks a lot for any advice!
I'm trying to debug a function that is returning NaN's somewhat sporatically and for no obvious (to me) reason. I didn't write this function, but have gone through it pretty carefully and can't find anything that looks wrong -- though I'm a fairly new mathcad user. Basically, the function pulls in some part numbers, queries a database for some values that go with those part numbers (ESR, Capacitance and ESL for those interested), does a few simple matrix operations and returns the result. It works fine when the number of parts is low (below 11 seems to work every time) but when my part number matrix is too long I get random NaN's as a result of the matrix operations. Hopefully the attached screenshots will explain better in detail -- they show the function and various outputs with 6, 14 and 44 parts. Does anyone have any ideas about this?
Message was edited by: Jay Kobor Note: The parts are the same and in the same order throughout the screenshots. So the first 6 caps in the 14caps image are the same caps as in the 6caps image, and so on. I just mention this to highlight the eccentricity of the problem, since the parts are consistent but the NaN's are not.
Hi,
I have a well trajectory and ellipses every x distance along the trajectory. The ellipses need to be azimuthally oriented (I have the corresponding azimuth data).
I can simplify the model and make the trajectory as vertical, then plot the elipses onto the trajectory.
What I'm really after is to plot the ellipses as a continous wellbore then assign a colour range to the OD of the wellbore (semi-major for example).
Can someone pls help ?
thank you
Mike
Hi
I have trouble simplifying some functions in Mathcad 14.
The problem is that Mathcad does not simplify the functions exact.
I have two examples attached so you can see the "problem".
Is there any possibility to get a more exact simplifying?

I have tried copy paste-special and inserting as a mathcad object. For some reason my units keep getting cutoff or the value is typed over the units. I have the same problem with saving it as an RTF and then inserting that into word. About the only time I dont have a problem is if i paste as a bitmap but then it looks like crap. Any suggestions?
A couple questions:
1. Why does the "Answer" not simplify the units?
2. Why can't I ever get the red "f" to go away?
For what it's worth, I did search the forum, for the first question, and I figured I'd throw out the second question since I was posting anyway.
Using v15
Edit: sorry the file keeps coming up as a zip...
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to square the the values in a non-square matrix in a function. In order to do this, I use the vectorize operator above the operation (squaring or multiplying the radii together). However, I'm getting an error in this step, which appears due to the definition of the function. I'm not able to determine the cause, as if I were to perform the operation on a copy of the matricies, it works just fine. Furthermore, I've used the operation in a fuction definition other places in the file.
Thank you!
Hello everyone!
My name is Jens, and I'm from Denmark.
I've recently changed from Mathcad 14 to Mathcad Prime 2.0. Everything is wonderful, but there is a problem with my calculations, when using the explicit function. The calculation shows up with too many digits (15), and I do know about the float function, however this is not a possible solution for me. Is there any chance that someone could help me, reducing these digits a bit?
I've attached a picture with my problem
