mathcad15M030 using Windows8 on HP Envy 64bit desktop

The program loaded easily from the downloaded file. However it has some strange behaviour.

1. The slightest mistake with a mouse click causes a program crash.

2. Any attempt to move the position of a tool group, in the header or on a worksheet, produces a ghostly companion outline and great difficuty in

    placement.

This is very irritating and not user friendly; M020 never did this.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

John Archer.

Bound & Constrained Linear Least Squares?

Hi,

Will this program perform bound and constraint linear least squares? The requirement is 3 vairables bound between 0 --> 1, and the constraint is the sum of the variables must = 1 (they are percentages of a whole). It's an overdetermined system so there will be ~10 rows in the equation matrix. MATLAB's 'lsqlin' function does exacly what I need, but we currently only have a Mathcad license.

Thanks!

Problem with calculation time of a nested function

I try  to plot the current through a Resistor-Coil Network with the following function. The following variable are defined static outside the equation (I_Anker_max, f_T, t_ein) and don't matter to much anyway. The issue I am having is that with increasing range of nx the calculation time rises exponentially and I even think that I know why. In my opinion the reason is that every time the Loop starts it calculates the hole thing from scratch. Unfortunately I am quite new to Mathcad and don't have any idea how to solve that. I'd be glad if someone had an advise for me.

Best regards Andre

Here the equations, the problem is with the last function at the bottom of the sheet:

Choppy operator symbol rendering- why?

Is there a way to make MCAD Prime render mathematical symbols as continuous, professional looking entities, or does it really chop things up like it seems to do all the time?  All non PTC versions of mathcad had no issues with this seemingly basic degree of showmanship. It is independent of zoom level, font, and it reders this way for print handlers too.

choppy symbols.jpg

I've seen some images from their tutorials and screenshots and they either don't have the issue of they cleverly choose only items that do not result in this issue- or maybe they doctor them up to hide it.  Since I rarely use MCAD Prime due to it's other major shortcomings relative to V15, I didn't really care so much- it just made sense since the rest of the tool was also dissapointing.  But from time to time I try to use it anyway since I know someday I'll need to use it or just leave the prodcut altogether, and this kind of thing is just a neon sign flashing "this prodcut is rediculous".

thanks,

Brian

Convert Mathcad 15 Template

Trying to import an .xmct template into Mathcad Prime 3 I got stuck because the xmcd button is grayed out.

It seems that I need a copy of Mathcad 15 to access that functionality.

Is there a way I can convert that template without the need of installing the old program version?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Chris

Possible to create iterative solve blocks?

$

In the attached MathCAD 14 worksheet I am attempting to solve for the embedment length for multiple sets of variables ( concrete dimensions a,b,ma,mb) using the Given command/block. Is it possible to pass multiple groups of variables in these three equations and solve for the single variable E using the Given block?

For each set of variables only one equation is solvable for E while the other two will not be solveable. The solvable equation changes as the dimensions changes. If the equation is not solvable, is it possible to for MathCAD to return a zero or unsolveable response instead of turning red?

Saving a file deletes it...

...in a way.

I have 3 of 10 users are having this problem, Mcad versions 14 & 15, no pattern as far as file, type of calcs in the file, time of day, toally random as of now. Started happening out of the blue also. Basically the user tries to save the file, a window opnes saying that the the file that the user is in and using is not found. Second window says that the temporary file access is denied. The file stays open and unsaved, if the user tries a save as with the same file name the file will be saved BUT the size will be 0Kb and when opened again, empty. If they choose save as and rename the file all is saved.

I have not tried repairing or reinstalling yet, didn't know if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks

Explicit Help

Hello,

I'm having a problem with MathCAD (version 14).  As shown in my attached file, I've used the explicit command to show variables in equation 1 which shows everything just fine.  However, when I introduce a fourth variable (r in this case) and try to make the second equation and show the values before evaluating the it, it shows q as a funny value with weird units (0.1524*ft/0.3048) added to a normal-looking r value.  I evaluated this number and it does come out to 0.5 ft but I was wondering if there was a way to just get the 0.5 ft (or rather the 6 in) to show up instead of this funny-looking value.  Additionally, it shows the q + r as red and with the message "This variable is undefined" and it does not actually solve for the correct value or 10 in.

Thanks in advance for any responses that I get.

histogram

I have these two sets of data one a vector being the length of particles(L),and the other a vector of the number of particles of a particular length(N). I can plot N versus L alright but the problem is the points in L are not equally spaced, therefore the N (Vs.)L plot is not exactly a histogram. My question is how to convert these two sets of data into a histogram?

making a single vector out of L and N ( a vector of length where each particular Li is repeated Ni times) is out of question since the elements in N are in the order of millions and the produced vector will be bigger than what mathcad can handle.

MathCad kernelbase.dll problem

Hey guys, I'm having problems with mathcad loading up properly.

for some reason my MathCad started not wanting to load up, but when I would go to my event viewer it doesn't load properly.

The Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385

Exception code: 0xe06d7363

Fault offset: 0x0000b727

Faulting process: 0x18d8

Faulting appllication path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14\mathcad.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll

from what it looks like from this error it seems like the installation isn't the problem but it may be an operating system problem.

How could i go about fixing this issue? Reloading the operating system?

Move MathCAD 13.1.3 License

I am finding it very hard to find out from the website how to move a MathCAD 13.1.3 license from one server to another.

I am unable to find out whether my company are still under a maintenance agreement for MathCAD or who I would talk to to find this out. I have no information of Customer Number/Contract Number/Order Number/Site Number to be able to talk to someone at PTC, nor if this was bought from a reseller. This is because it is such an old version and there are no longer any staff members around who would have been involved in the support/purchase/etc. of the software.

It appears that the community may be my only hope as the phone numbers listed on the website cannot be called from my work and there is no email address for PTC to talk to.

Can anybody help me?

Cheers,

Nick

Add/Remove More plot lines automatically from a vector plot

I am plotting the velocity in a line verse the diameter of the line.  I have a vector of temperatures and pressures.  I am wondering if it is possible to automatically add more plot lines to a 2D plot if I add another entry in the temperature and pressure vectors.  The velocity is currently a function of the mass flow, diameter, temperature and pressure.

Mathcad 15 Windows 8 License Problem.

     I can't get Mathcad 15 to recognize a license under Win 8.

First some background; I have been installing, and licensing Mathcad for a long time (First ver. text only under Dos) the computer lists three different MAC addresses, tried all three. I receive the license file rename it "license.dat" and put it in "c:\Program files(x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad15\license" when I start Mathcad it says the license file has an error or it can't find the license server and offers to run the license setup manager, so I run the manager point it to the license file hit finish and it still cant find it. What's going on? I am stumped.

Mathcad Prime 3.0 READPRN not working properly

Hello,

I am having a trouble with the Mathcad Prime 3.0 function READPRN.

It is just a simple test atm. I first define a Matrix, write it to a file with WRITEPRN and then read it again with READPRN. It works fine as long I use standard two dimensional matrices. But I need it to write/read a matrix whose elements are matrices themselve ( I thinks its called nested matrix). Anyway, the WRITEPRN function works fine again, but the READPRN causes the Mathcad to crash most of the time. It shows me a windows error message saying "PTC Mathcad Prime 3.0 has stopped working" and gives me the option to close the pogram.

I would really appreciate some help on the this issue.

I am using:

Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64 bit

Mathcad Prime 3.0 64 bit (Trail Verison)

Attached is a example that is not working for me. (prn_ex)

EDIT: The second example is working. (prn_ex_working)

Thanks in advance

Eric
