I am a newbie user of mathcad. Started to use it for few assignments. Found a problem that when I need to use the same letter few times in one document, how can I find out the value of that particular letter is right? Is there away I can replace the expression with value so that I can check? Thanks.

blank 3d plot
Are there any more thoughts on avoiding blank 3d plots?
This is with V15M030, on two (almost) identical corporate machines running the same worksheet, where one machine will show the 3d plot, while the other wont.
It's a common corporate base machine, with slightly different additional software tools (e.g. Matlab, etc.)
The worksheet 3d plots have borders switched off.
Machine 2: If the 'blank' 3d plot is copied and pasted, say into powerpoint, they image is there, it just isn't being displayed in the live mathcad.
Machine 1: On the 'good' machine, a scroll of the mouse will cause the 3d plot display to blank out, but will re-display if the mouse is clicked back inside the plot.
Any thoughts or suggestions about how to make the plots show on the grumpy machine, or on debug techniques.
(I know that 3d plots have been a long running issue ;-)

Need Alternative for my Students
I work at a large university and just found out that our computer people are uninstalling the few remaining seats of Mathcad in my college (if a university was a company, a college would be a division). Unhappily, Mathcad is effectively being removed from my college. We can buy licenses for $500 per seat, but there isn't enough money; 50 seats would be $25,000.
I had planned to stick with MCAD 15 for another year or two, but I'm afraid circumstances may be forcing my hand.
If you were going to introduce a number crunching program to undergraduate students who often have no prior experience, which of these would you pick:
- Mathematica
- MATLAB
- Maple
These are all widely available on campus and there is a user base to rely on. I like MATLAB and it's really easy to get (Amazon), but the programming interface is dated and simulink has a learning curve. Maple is easy to get (Amazon), seems to be both easy to learn and capable. Mathematica is very powerful and easy to get, but there is a learning curve. Also, it's related to the Wolfram Alpha web site that everyone already uses. Mathematica is probably the easiest sell, partly because of the web site and partly because some students already have already used it in high school.

Now that Matlab and Mathematica have home edition software at an affordable price, is PTC going to follow suit? It only makes sense if one does not fall into either the professional workplace or student category but would like to use the application for home use only.

License Server error -97,121 in Win 2008 R2. Can some one advice?
Hello,
We upgraded License Server from Win 2003 XP to Win 2008 R2 x64.
Moved all MathCAD license server files to new server and also to C:\ instead of C:\Program Files.
Edited License.dat file with new Server name and HostID using cpu_id.exe file.

Proper use of Solve block in Mathcad Prime
In the attached pdf some great person created, in Mathcad 15 or earlier, a great example of double integration to determine beam deflection. I am attempting to redo their work in Prime before modifying it for other beams. In the attached Prime worksheet, I've attempted to use the Solve block to perform a similar function to their find command. Can someone tell me what is incorrect about my use of the solve block? It's outputting the same values as the guess values.

Color Scheme for 3D Plot in Prime 3.0
Hi Folks,
I got a question from a student who downloaded Prime 3.0 and is learning how to use it. Is it possible to use the color scheme on a 3D plot? This is the feature that color codes the z-axis values. We use this feature all the time in class on Mathcad 15, but it doesn't look like this is possible in Prime 3.0. Am I missing something?

Is Mathcad 14 compatible with Windows 8.1? I tried installinf 14 on my new pc. I got a license from PTC but Mathcad doesn't run.

We just a very attractive quote for 50 seats of Mathcad for academic use. The quote came from a third party supplier called EAC. Does anyone know if going this route will still allow us to use Mathcad 15?

Heat Value for GN
Hello everyone.
I find myself trying to calculate the calorific value of natural gas based on the application of a series of equations described in Rule AGA in its report No. 8. I doubt in the interpretation of these equations, especially in how I handle values of "SC" because I get an error.

Combine two types of plots?
Is it possible to create a plot with two different trace types?
The idea is to plot a continuous signal using the line trace and plot a stem trace to illustrate discrete sample times on the continuous signal.
