Is there any way to remove green brackets by text editing in a XMCD file (XML)?

Maybe is something I can replace/change as text and after that I perform a save in Mathcad 15.

Extracting Individual Values from Odesolve

I apologize if this has been asked before as it would seem something others would have asked but my search of the blog returned nothing. In the attached file I have a simple 2nd order linear DE. I can see to extract individual values from the Odesolve output. I've also figured out how to extract the response to a vector. My question is how to know I've captured all the important content from the Odesolve output with my selected time increment of .01s. What if I was looking for the exact maximum. Seems like with my approach I'm only getting an approximation of the Odesolve output.

Analyzing Results of Experiments with DOE

$

Dear all,

I am completely new to DOE in MathCAD, my only experiences with DOE are related to a DOE-Module contained in a simulation software (ADAMS)... and that was a lot of years ago.

I am aware that there is a complete set of DOE-tools in Mathcad, I also tried to have a look at the quick-sheets, but I am not understanding how can I use this tools. I would need some kind of E-Book or the like, a "getting-started"-sort of thing.

Anyway I attach an example (without units or real references, but slightly simplified from a real experiment whose results I am requested to evaluate).

What I would like to do is very simple. I do not need to "design" the experiment, that was already done "by hand", so the different combinations of parameters are already given.

There are a few "digital" parameters (P1, P2,... up to HV4) that can take the value 0 or 1.  In my experiment they are pumps, heat-exchangers that can be on or off.  Then there are a few real parameters (F1, F2, ... PT2).  They can be volumetric flows or pressures.  Then there is one result (actually I would be interested in more than one, but for the sake of simplicity I stay with one in this example). It is named "Result".  It can be thought of as a percent output, a temperature, etc.

Now given that I would like:

1) a quantitative estimation of the importance of any parameter to the final result

2) a "best fit" function (response surface), maybe with a given degree, that tries to compute the result with a new combination of parameters.  And a quality indicator for this result.

Am I on the right way?  Or is what I am trying to do not the purpose of the Mathcad DOE-Module?

Thanks a lot for any hint.  I just need a starting point, or some hint where to find help.

Best regards

Claudio

This is a more general question but I couldn't find the MathCAD general issues discussion group. Regardless, the PTC website makes me feel very stupid. I’m at the eLearning portal and see this:

I click on the Essentials link and it takes me to

which is nothing but a PDF file telling me the contents of the Essentials module. How do I actually access the training content?

Mathcad 15 trim units

$

I have some empirical formulas to enter in Mathcad 15, in which the values should be inputted without units.

Is there any way to input them other that dividing the variable to his unit?

Example:

a=1m

b=2kg

I don't want to input:

c=a/1m + b/1kg = 3

I want something like:

c = "trim unit" (a+b) = 3

Note:

I want to keep the units for a and b definitions.

I don't want to define other variables.

Thanks

"Freeze panes" in Mathcad?

$

I am trying to create a mathcad in which the user selects one of the two options (lets say Load Case 1 & Load Case 2) in the beginning of the sheet. Subsequent to this selection, a few calculations take place in the sheet. Now when the user is lets say 10 pages down, I want him to be able to switch between these options so that all the calculations in the mathcad now reflect the results based on this revised choice. I was hoping to see something like a "freeze panes" option in excel or to see some floating region which would be visible at all times to the user.

Where is "symbolic"->"variable"->"solve"

I just converted over to Prime 3.0. Before I used to use Mathcad v8.  The option that i used the mose was to craete an equation & then have Mathcad symbolically solve for the variable. In mathcad 8 I would do the following steps:

1.) define an equation with some variables, using the ctrl+= (so I get the bold =)
2.) click on the variable I wanted to solve for

3.) In the top menu bar click "symbolic", then "variable", then solve

That was it ... I can not find that in the new Prime 3

40+ minor bugs, glitches and suggestions for Mathcad Prime

$

Hello everyone, I’ve been using PTC Mathcad Prime for some time at my workplace and I wrote down some suggestions to make this software even better.

Some of it are minor bugs, some are usability issues. I’ve added some would-haves also.

Sorry if they overlap with what's been currently discussed (they surely do), but I hope you'll find something worth investigating.

Bugs

  1. When you set "Transparent" as default plot background colour and save the file as a template, it switches to "Paper color" when you start a new document.
  2. floor() and mantissa() functions should work with units. Image.
  3. matrix() function does not work properly. It ignores ORIGIN. Image.
  4. Some functions, like match(), return a 1×1 matrix instead of a scalar. Image.
  5. Objects in Draft View are not exactly nonprintable.
  6. Copy-paste in collapsible area moves everything below the area instead of enlarging the area.
  7. UnitsOf() should return actually displayed units. Image. Then would be no need to manually adjust everything further in the worksheet.
  8. Sometimes there are blank pages left at the bottom and there is no way to delete them before printing.
  9. error() does not work properly with latin-extended alphabets. Image.

Usability issues

  1. Writing in tables: when there’s no data in 1st row and you want to call it further in your worksheet, maybe assume empty cell = 0 or NaN? Image.
  2. Math in text feature: if you try and call a variable inside a paragraph, it gets a placeholder for its unit, even if not needed. Adds unnecessary white space. Image. Same thing with sigma and other operators. Image.
  3. When there's no units added to a table, it's row should collapse.
  4. Italics made by Mathcad are false italics, not the proper, oblique forms of fonts.
  5. Copy-paste from Word and Excel causes problems. It would be nice to paste-as-a-matrix, paste-and-transpose, paste-raw-text etc.
  6. Preffered units: there could be a way to set unit priorities. Instead of having your result as J/kg/K you could want them to by expressed as more usable kJ/kg/K by default.
  7. It would be nice to have "anchor points" not only in right-hand-side of an object. Image.
  8. Ctrl + z feature works only one-character backwards. Would be more usable if it behaved object-wise (i.e. deleting whole unit instead of singular letters).

Nice-to-have features

  1. Ability to output data as a table.
  2. Merge cells feature in tables.
  3. Styles! Parahraph styles, headline styles etc.
  4. Accents. Letters with dots above used to name a variable associated with flow.
  5. Spell checker.
  6. Autimatically numbering equations ("Equation" style with proper margin, font etc.).
  7. Adding links in text.
  8. Save-as-PDF feature. Some "PDF printers" do not work properly. Export-as-docx would be nice also (especially when you write a thesis and you don't want to deal with all math expressions).
  9. Automatically generated table of contents.
  10. Grid lines for creating clean documentation.
  11. Ability to center-align any object (text, equation, image) in a page.
  12. Ability to open your document in safe-mode (open, but do not calculate). I've had some cases when document crashed just as I opened it and I wasn't able to look into the matter.
  13. Table captions.
  14. Variable's name auto-suggestion feature when writing equations.
  15. "Print document" screen: ability to disable the grid temporarily for printing/exporting.
  16. "Tab" button indenting held object (optionally).
  17. Adding comments and indents in programs.
  18. Two-axis plots.
  19. Using forward slash in units.
  20. Ability to set default width of Text Box.
  21. Ability to add units like ml, MJ etc. globally (not in a particular worksheet, but in Mathcad itself).
  22. Ability to add comas in subscripts in cases like this.
  23. Creating empty matrix for programming use.
  24. Ability to insert symbols ('*', ',') as upper/lower accents.
  25. Nesting subscripts.
  26. Some way to present results in nice, clean way. Maybe something working like MATLAB's fprintf? Image.
  27. Ability to define default type of box (math/text) created when user starts writing. Sometimes there's more text than equations.
  28. Ability to zoom in/zoom out using alt + mouse wheel or ctrl + mouse wheel.

How to specify an incremental ceiling value without going over?

$

Is it possible in Mathcad to write a function that provides the nearest multiple of a value without going over a particular ceiling? For example, I have a maximum allowable bolt Ø of 0.33in. Bolts come in 0.125in (1/8in) Ø increments. I'd like Mathcad to provide me with a 0.25in Ø bolt size (as 0.375in exceeds 0.33in). I tried Ceil(0.33in,0.125in) but the result is 0.375in.

How to assign Mathcad prime 2.0 output value to creo parametric 2.0 model as parameter?

Hi...

I have two questions as below,

1. How to assign mathcad prime 2.0 output value to creo parametric as a model parameter ?

2. How to integrate mathcad prime2.0 worksheet with creo parametric2.0 with output value type as a string?

I have integrated my mathcad worksheet with creo parametric but unable to make its model parameter so i want to know how we can add it by relation or else.

and secondly if i give my mathcad output value in string format then i am not able to make its integration.

Prime 3.1 Grid - Switching between Standard and Fine???

What is the rationale for the change in region position on the page when changing from Standard Grid to Fine Grid and vice versa?  I don't mind the change in granularity, but I don't want my regions to jump all over the place when I change the grid size.

Prime - local recursive function definition

I've been trying to port a worksheet to Prime 1.0, but have got stuck because, whilst recursion is supported, local recursive function definition is giving me a problem.   How does one define local function f to be recursive in the attached worksheet?  Does it work in Prime 2.0?

Thanks,

returning a range from vlookup

$

Dear friends,

I have problem trying to return a range from vlookup.  I have a table input which defines the steel gage number against the metric thickness.  The metric thickness is in column 0 and the gages in subsequent columns.  This variable is named "gages"

My calculation sheet is looking at the resistance of steel walls on a silo, and can have up to 35 different thickness in the one silo.  So I have a 1 x 35 input table in which the steel thickness is entered "Sidewall".  This is a unitless variable, which relates to the metric thickness of the steel.

All I want to do, using the vlookup function is to return the actual steel gage numbers for each of the Sidewall thicknesses.  Here is what I have entered:

wga[rn:vlookup(Sidewall[rn,gages,1)   rn is the range variable 1..35

What I was hoping was to get an output wga[rn, which gives me a 1 x 35 matrix of the steel gage numbers.  Instead, what I get is 35 row matrix of nested 1 x 1 matrices.  However if I enter wga[3 for instance, I get the value I want.

This is most vexing!  Can anyone help me get the actual value out as an array?
