curve intersection on mathcad prime 3.1

$

I'm using matchcad prime 3.1 for the very first time to solve curve intersections as below (which I have a ton of). I know I have to use solve block, but I can get it to work. what am I doing wrongly?

y1:=86

y2:= -0.0000054527x^3 + 0.010903836x^2 + 0.0714244709x + 74.18816

x:=1         y:=1

y1(x) = y2(x)

y=y1(x)

find(x,y)

When will PTC fix the M15 hyperlink https annoyance?

$

As has been noted many time previously, entering an https address into the M15 hyperlink dialog produces an invalid path/address error.   To add insult to injury, as well as the annoyance of having to remember this when the problem occurs, the dreaded dialog even appears when linking to a Community thread!

Given that a simple fix is to remove the "s", why don't PTC just fix the problem (they could release it in M050 along with a fix to the limitation on matrix display size "feature" that got introduced in M040)?

Installing Mathcad 14.0 M020 with Add-On Collection on 64-bit Windows 7

$

I recently obtained a new work computer running 64-bit Windows 7.  I have a single user license for Mathcad 14.0 with the Add-On Collection.  I uninstalled Mathcad from my old 32-bi Windows XP machine.  I had tremendous difficulty getting the software installed on the new machine.  I also have personal license at home runing on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine that installed relatively easily and works fine, so I know it was possible.  The difference is that my primary account on my home machine has full administrator privileges, whereas my work machine is much more restricted.  Here's the procedure that worked for me.  Hopefully, it can help somebody else.

Installing Mathcad 14.0 M020 with Add-On Collection on 64-bit Windows 7

1.) Ideally, run the entire installation from an account with full administrator privileges.  However, you can run from a standard account as long as you obtain local machine administrator privileges (which is what was done here).

"*.exe" files should be run with "Run as Administrator".

"*.msi" files should be run regularly, and you'll be prompted to enter the administrator credentials.

Command line actions should be done by running "cmd.exe" with "Run as Administrator".

2.) Install (if necessary):

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) - "vcredist_x86"

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) - "vcredist_x64"

- MSXML 4.0 SP2 Parser and SDK - "msxml.msi"

3.) Run "Mathcad_14_M020_EN.exe" from the Mathcad 14.0 M020 CD and expand the files onto the hard drive into a top-level directory like "C:\PTC".  Exit the installer without installing.

4.) Under "C:\PTC\Mathcad" run "Mathcad 14.0 M020.msi".  Enter the Mathcad 14.0 product code, along with the S/N from an older version of Mathcad if Mathcad 14 was an upgrade.  Exit without applying license file.

5.) If component registration errors are encountered during the installation, hit “OK” to step through them all.  After the installation is completed, run the following in a *.bat file:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 mcformsr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 mcadr.dll

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 matlabr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 mathcaddaqr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 htmlcomponentr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 glr.dll

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 buttonr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 vsodbcior.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 vsimagr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 vsexcelr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 vsdataior.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 tabler.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 octreer.dll

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 mcscriptr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 imageviewerr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 datawizardr.dll

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 webdavr.dll

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 mclauncherr.dll

5.) Obtain hard drive ("C:\") volume number at command prompt by typing "vol" and the Mathcad 14.0 product code from the CD.  With this information, use the Mathcad Single User and Student License Call Logger on the PTC Support page (log-in required) at:

      http://www.ptc.com/appserver/lm/mathcad/call_logger/callLogger.jsp

to request a new license "*.dat" file for Mathcad 14.0 and the Add-On Collection.

6.) When the license file is e-mailed, place it in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14\licenses".  Run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14\MCLicense\MCLicense" to register the license and enable the software.

7.) At a command prompt, run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14\mathcad.exe  /register".

8.) Extract the zip file on the Mathcad 14.0 Add-On Collection CD to "C:\PTC\Mathcad14AddonCollection".  Extract the four extension packs' (Data Analysis, Image Processing, Signal Processing, and Wavelets) *.msi files into this same directory from the corresponding *.exe files.  Run the remaining *.exe files to install the various handbooks.  Run the extension pack *.msi files to install the extension packs.  Make sure that your license file enables the Add-On Collection also.  Once all the extension packs are installed, run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14\EnableExtPacks.exe" from a command window.

9.) Test out Mathcad 14.0 and all the extension packs.

**********************************************************************

Uninstalling Mathcad 14.0 M020 with Add-On Collection on 64-bit Windows 7

To uninstall, uninstall each of the Add-On Collection components from the Control Panel's "Uninstall a Program" list first, then the "Mathcad 14.0 M020 Resource Center", the "Mathcad 14.0 M020 Help", and finally "Mathcad 14.0 M020".  You may get un-registration errors on the last uninstall.  If so, run the following in a *.bat file:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Mathcad\Mathcad 14

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 /u mcformsr.ocx

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 /u mcadr.dll

How to extract non-consecutive submatrix in a easier way

$

Hi, everyone,

If I have a 100 by 100 matrix and I want to extract its 10 to 20, 40 to 50 and 70 to 80 rows and columns,

Is there a easier way rather than submatrix the rows first and then the columns and use stack or augment to assemble the submatrice?

Such as define a index of the rows and columns I want to extract and then extract the index from the matrix in Matlab?

E.g, index= [10:20 40:50 70:80]

K_BC=K(index, index)

Mathcad Prime 3 solver block

After upgrading to Mathcad 15 M040 I'm no longer able to open one of my files, "Unrecoverable error, two regions skipped". Same file still works perfectly with M030. Did someone had similar issues?

Hello,

How can I create assumptions about vector elements?  It seems that my approach below is not working:

MATHCAD - how do I change a function f(x) to a vector so that I can use it in subsequent evaluations (e.g. interpolate)?

I have a time domain function (damped sine) in MATHCAD that needs to be fft, then attenuated by a frequency dependent vector. To do that I need to:

- perform fft on function

- interpolate the fft with the attenuation

I have tried VECTORIZED with no success. Can anyone help with creating a vector/matrix from a function?

Iterative solution

Can any one help ?

I can find it manually, but 1000 iterations will take very long time

Seriously, you can't open 3.1 files on 3.0!? That's outrageous.

My university used 3.0 and at home I have 3.1. Not allowing 3.1 files to be opened on 3.0 seems like a money grubbing thing. I find it hard to believe that the programs are so different that they are completely incompatible. PTC seems to be just trying to force people to pay them more money.

Backsolving springs with known lamdas - 4x4 Matrix Determinant

$

I have a mass-spring system.  I am trying to back-solve four springs (provided in the attached file).

There are four masses at which summation of forces are performed and A matrices are obtained.  The attached file shows them in the (Lamda*I - A) format. These springs and masses are configured in four different ways and their first mode natural frequencies are known.

Therefore, in my mind, I should be able to use Given/Find in order to find the unknown springs with four equations while setting the determinants of the four matrices to zero.

The solver doesn't converge.

What is the problem here?  Can this be done?  If not, how else?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

Function to convert a string into a vector of characters

A function to convert a string, or vector of character codes, into a vector of characters.

This is a function I have found useful on several occasions.  An example is counting successive sequences of characters in a string (eg, for run length encoding).   A recent Community task was to count sequences of numbers in a vector, for which the function seqcount was created.   Counting characters in a string can be done using char to convert a string to a vector of characters and then applying seqcount to that vector.

How do I compare variable names in MC15?

$

Hello folks,

this is about a basic issue hence no example sheet.

For a lengthy calculation I'd like to read in parameters from excel. As this excel sheet is lenghty as well I want to check first whether the parameters in the Excel sheet match the parameters in my MatchCad sheet (naming and order of parameters). I'm thinking along the lines of making a one-to-one comparison of variable names (not the variable values!) in order to verify a match.

Does anybody has an idea how to conduct such a comparison?

Thanks in advance for any idea
