New problem with a catenary – a specific pendulum
Newproblemofthecatenary – a specific pendulum.
We loaded our catenary with weight and looked like changing its form – see please here http://communities.ptc.com/videos/4438. If the weight is too heavy, then either Mathcad not be able to solve a system of equations or a catenary... breaks and we have two parts as a… pendulum. I tried to simulate the swing of this pendulum-chain with five units - see please http://communities.ptc.com/videos/4448
The problem we have is not a chain, and a weighty chain is flexible, which we rejected from the vertical to the desired form (with what desired form?). And released. How to simulate the swing of this pendulum-chain? Is there a symbolic solution of this problem. There is solution is for the ordinary pendulum.

Setting default units in Mathcad Prime 3.0
Hello Everyone,
my problem seems to be trivial, but I couldn't find a solution yet:
I would like to set the default units for the results of equations, because the default SI-Units are useless and hardly readable in my case.
I am using mostly kN as force, cm^2 as area and kN/cm^2 as tension (pressure).
How can I set these Units as default units for the results of expressions? I don't like to change the units m^2 to cm^2, N to kN and so on everytime as a write an expresion. I would like To have this done by Mathcad.

Mathcad 2.0 won't let me define this as a variable

Why can it process a+3 and give me a perfectly good answer, but go to define said answer as its own variable B and it won't let me??? How do I do this?

Accessing a data file on the internet from mathcad worksheet
We have a problem with some of the mathcad tools that data-file they come with needs to be periodically
updated. The easiest way would be if we could like a file reading function to an internet location
of the latest file. But it does not appear to work. Is there any way to make it work and
to use addresses like ftp or html for example in READFILE?
Any vbscripts anybody developed to solve this problem?

MathCAD 14 3D Plot of transfer function

I have problem with plotting 3D surface of my fransfer function. I have defined my function, but when I try to plot itit says that my transfer function should be a scalar, or matrix.

How to properly use constraints and rules followed by Mathcad's Solver
Below are some pictures of the inputs to Mathcad's solver using Prime 2.0. I am trying to design a bellville washer here that exerts F1=8,500lbs of force in one position y1, and than in a relaxed position (y1-alpha) provides a force F2>=8000
As can be seen above I have set up my constraints as well as possible yet at the end the F2 does not come out to something between 8000-8500, thus it does not meet the requirements of my constraint #3 above.
I am fine with Mathcad varying y1, t, and H as much as needed to obtain a solution, the question is 7021 the best that any combination of values can actually do? If so why doesn't Mathcad simply come back and say no solution since truly the F2=7021 does not meet the constraints?
One thing I should also mention that I find quite frustrating is when I go back to the top to my initial guess values and start varying the numbers up there, I often come up with closer and better answers at the bottom. Is there an order that Mathcad evaluates values inside of the solve function?
I can work out ideas for a for loop in my head as to how to evaluate this one but being so new to Mathcad and finding the syntaxt different from my prior LabVIEW and Matlab experience, I am still struggling to figure out how to program up the loops here, hence why I was hoping that the solver itself would be able to go back and ensure that any value found met all my criteria .

Closed form possible?
Hi all,
I'm attempting to derive an expression for an infinite sum of a series of 2nd order polynomials (see attachment). The independent variable "s" is scaled for each successive term of the sum. The problem is a filter bank with an infinite number of individual overlapping filters with each scaled in frequency.
I know Mathcad can crunch the expression to give me a numerical answer for a value of s using symbolic evaluation "->" but it won't give me a numerical evaluation using "=". Also, it doesn't seem to be able to provide a closed form of the infinite sum (which is what I would like if it were possible).
You will see that I have attempted to break the expression down using a partial fraction expansion so the infinite sum boils down to separate sums of 1st order polynomials but this hasn't really helped.
I lack the know how to figure out if this problem is actually solvable.

assigning a value to a parameters defined above in the worksheet
i have this long worksheet that creates graphs in the last page . I am investigating the effect of the parameters defined in the first pages of the worsheet on the final results(graphs) . each time I have to scrol several pages up , change a value , run the program scroll down and see the difference. doing this for several hundered times is makin me crazy!!!
I there a way to assign a value to the parameters defined in the first pages from somewhere down in the worksheet?

Mathcad Prime 2.0 installation "an error occurred during the installation of assembly"
Hey everybody,
I am a student out of Central Lee High School in Iowa, and am part of the Real World Design Challenge team at my school. I am trying to install Mathcad Prime 2.0 off of a usb drive onto my Windows Vista. The installation seems to work fine until a text box pops up and says:
An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.CRT.version="9.0.30729.4148".publicKey Token= "1fc8b3b9a 1e18e3b".processorArchitecture="x86".type=win32" Please refer to help and support for more information
this cancels the installation and I am left with nothing. I would really appreciate some help.

Function will not converge
Hi,
I am calculating dynamic pressures on a moving gate and cannot get the integral for vertical force Fv(t) to converge. I have tried adjusting the convergence tolerance but this does not seem to make any difference. Any clues would be appreciated.

Mathcad Rounding numbers before calculations
Hello,
I am having a problem with Mathcad 14. After almost two years without using it I have just started to needed again.
Maybe this problem is really easy to solve but I don't find the way to do it.
Mathcad y rounding my numbers before calculation in a really strange way. have never put any setting to ask it to do so. For example, with the simplest sum 1.3 + 1.3, Mathcad gives me the result 2 instead of 2.6
If I asked mathcad for the value of gravity acceleration it gives me 9 instead of 9.8....

Error in Thomas algorithm
Hey guys,
I was given a parabolic differential equation with the boundary condition of dT/dR = 0 when R = 0 but I am not quite sure how I am suppose to incorporate that into my Thomas algorithm/Crank-Nicolson program.
I currently have it in the program as u1 = du/dr but it tells me the value must be scalar. When I just get rid of it, there are complex answers in my solution.

Excel/VBA Help?
I know that this is technically a Mathcad forum but I have been stuck on an Excel issue for about 3-4 weeks now and I have no idea how to fix it.
I was given a differential equation with an initial condition and a boundary condition. I was suppose to guess an initial condition in place of the boundary condition, then use bracketing and the Brent method combined with the Runge-Kutta method to adjust my guessed initial condition to solve the equation and have it match the given boundary condition.
What I did was guess the initial condition, plug it into my Runge-Kutta method to give me some answer, check that answer with my boundary condition, then use the bracketing and Brent method to adjust my guess and resolve it with the Runge-Kutta. The problem I am having is that the program keeps taking an exponent of a negative number which gives a run-time error 5 when dydx(1) is evaluated. I don't know if I can just put in a safety statement saying if the variable is less an 0, make it 0.
I attached my excel program with the VBA coding, maybe some one can take a look and give me an idea of what I am doing wrong or how to possibly fix it?

Printing a page with an embedded Adobe File
On several occasions I have found it useful to insert an object for reference in a MathCAD document.
However and despite pains to size it right, when I print the page with the object it shrinks to a miniscule
icon. What I see in the living MathCAD document is a full size view of say a transmission line structure
with dimensionos. This is also what I see when I do a print preview. The objects I insert have been Acrobat
pdf files. Should I use a different type of object? Is there trick I am missing?
